The abyssal rainbow gar is an abyssal fish spotted by William Beebe in the early 1930s in Bermuda.[2]
Description
The abyssal rainbow gar is roughly 10.2 cm (4 inches) in length. It has a scarlet head with a long beak. Its light blue body is long and slender, and ends with a yellow posterior and tail.
Behaviour
This species lives at a depth of 762 m (2500 ft) in small groups. It swims stiffly and upright.
Sightings and discoveries
1930s
A small group of abyssal rainbow gars were observed by William Beebe in a bathysphere off Bermuda at a depth of 2500 feet.
